Taking A Look At The Games On The 2011 Penn State Football Schedule

The 2011 Penn State football schedule has gone out and this means analysts, followers, and everybody between can begin the entire process of predicting wins and losses for Joe Paterno’s 2011 team.

When looking at the 2011 Penn State football schedule, you see many familiar things, a very difficult finish to the schedule, and a premier out-of-conference match-up in your own home stadium which will get viewed from all associated with conference football. In 2011 Penn State offers their own usual slate of home and away Big Ten conference games, but has it back loaded with season closing games at Wisconsin and Ohio State. However most followers will be focusing on the early season match-up with Alabama. Penn State vs Alabama football tickets will be probably the most difficult to get in 2011.

Last year Penn State visited Tuscaloosa, Alabama to play the Crimson Tide at the start of the season for a match-up of 2 of college football classic programs. Alabama was among the nation’s top groups and was rated #1 at the time. The game had plenty of hype, and plenty of PSU followers made the trip, but the group was honestly overmatched. Penn State lost the game 24-3.

This season the game comes to State College, Pennsylvania even though Alabama will still be a very gifted challenger, most likely rated in the top 10, the overall game should be much more evenly matched. Irrespective, it will just as over-blown not only between your 2 fan bases but across the college football landscape in general. Also like last year, it will provide plenty of motivation for the program and players through the entire off-season getting this type of powerful opponent coming into Beaver Stadium so early in the season.

Beyond the Alabama game, Penn State has bracketed three extra out-of-conference games around Bama before getting into Big 10 play. The additional OOC competitors are from mid-major conferences, including I-AA challenger and opening opponent Indiana State. Penn State also plays at Temple and at home versus Eastern Michigan in Sept.

Once Big Ten play starts, Penn State offers home games against Iowa, Purdue, Illinois, and new Big Ten member and immediate Penn State rival Nebraska. Road games come against Indiana, Northwestern, and the prior mentioned games at Wisconsin and Ohio State to end the season. While the home and away competitors tend to be pretty well balanced in the Big Ten, the final 2 road games make the schedule overall being on the challenging aspect.

There is a new prize for Penn State in 2011 beyond their own usual goals of a Big Ten Championship, Bowl Game, and BCS Championship. All those are still goals, but this season is the inagurual year for the Big Ten Championship game on December 3 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN. Winning the ‘Leaders’ Division means topping OSU and Wisconsin, but would place Penn State in the game.
